Why the Boca Stadium is called La Bombonera?
A joint project by Slovenian architect Victor Sulcic and engineer José Luis Delpini, the stadium represented a serious challenge for the authors, due to the narrowness of the land, located in an area that was already fully consolidated by 1910. To achieve the necessary seating capacity upward building was agreed, with sloping and overlapping stands that hover seven metres above the void. Its design is so vertically oriented that the space between the pitch and the spectators is almost inexistent.
According to history, once Sulcic got a box of bonbons which reminded him of the shape of the stadium and from then onwards this stadium was called La Bombonera (The Bonbon Box)
